It’s interesting to think that the water on Earth never leaves the atmosphere, and there is also no new water coming into the Earth from space. That means although the water may take different forms like frozen ice caps or being held in clouds there is always the same amount of water on Earth. There is also geological evidence that the water has been on Earth for 3.8 billion years! That means we are drinking the same water that dinosaurs used to drink.
So why are we making such a big deal about water? We are glad you asked! Did you know that up to 60% of the human adult body is water? We believe that the health of your skin is connected to your health and water intake.
Drinking water provides many health benefits to our body and our skin. In general it is recommended to drink half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound that you weigh. If you weigh 150 pounds that would mean you should drink 75-150 oz a day. Studies show that just two glasses of water can increase blood flow to the skin which provides a more even tone. Staying hydrated also helps the skin stay moist which increases the elasticity in the skin.
Our skin is the largest organ of the body and its main function is to provide a protective barrier between the outside world and our body. The pH level of your skin plays a main role in that protective barrier. Let’s take you back to high school chemistry for a bit of a refresher course. pH stands for potential hydrogen and refers to the acidity level of a substance. The scale ranges from 1-14, with 8 and above being alkaline and below 6 is acidic. A pH level of 7 is considered neutral. Our skin’s natural pH level ranges from 5.0 to 5.5 which means our skin is slightly acidic. That pH level can be changed by so many factors including the products we use, the weather outside, what we eat or even the pH level of the water we wash our face with. A 0.5 swing in pH either direction can cause negative fluctuations in your skin’s complexion. If your skin moves higher towards the alkaline side your skin will appear tight and dry. This can lead to further irritation and a lack of protection against acne-causing bacteria. On the other hand if your skin moves in the acidic direction the lipid barrier becomes compromised and your body will lose natural oils that help maintain hydration. An easy fix for this could be to use a toner that has Aloe in it for the soothing properties.
There are so many factors that affect your skin it is hard to keep track of what you should and shouldn’t do. Always try and keep a watchful eye on your cosmetic products. Anything with artificial fragrance, parabens, or phthalates should have gone extinct with the dinosaurs. However, there are so many benefits to both your skin and your entire body that we haven’t even touched on in this article that it is generally always a good idea to drink water.
Serums vs Moisturizers

We’ve all been there. You’re at the grocery store and walking down the cereal aisle distracted by your phone and suddenly you look up. You’re surrounded by hundreds of options and possibilities of which cereal to choose. You feel so overwhelmed with anxiety and stressed with the paradox of choice that sometimes you walk out without choosing one at all. The cosmetics world can feel even more daunting with which products to choose, which one to apply first, or which ones you even need at all. We are going to simplify things a little bit by focusing on just the serums and the moisturizers.
We often get asked the question; Do I need to use serum if I use moisturizer or vice versa. Before we answer this complicated question let’s first dive into what each of these products are meant to do.
Serums are usually lighter than moisturizers with a smaller molecular weight to penetrate deep into the skin. They are generally much more expensive than a moisturizer because the main goal is to deliver a high concentration of the active ingredient to nourish and improve the skin significantly. Most look to address anti-aging, acne prevention, or skin brightening. In our case our Cell Repair Serum contains almost 50% of our Cell Repair Nutrient which aims to heal many skin imperfections by providing your skin with all the nutrients, growth factors, cytokines, and proteins it needs to recover overnight while you sleep. With how powerful most serums are, just remember the important adage “ a little goes a long way”. This will help both you and your wallet when using your serum. Half a pump or the equivalent to a water drop will be sufficient to cover your whole face. Make sure to gently pat around your face to get an equal distribution of serum before you start spreading. Our 15 ml bottle of serum should last for a minimum of a month when used correctly.
Wow! Serums sound amazing so I don’t need a moisturizer then right? Not so fast. Since serums focus on improving your overall skin they leave out much needed moisturizing ingredients your skin needs to hydrate and prevent water loss. Moisturizers use a thicker formula to create a physical barrier to lock in hydration and prevent your skin from drying out. We also use our moisturizer to provide your skin with a lot more helpful ingredients. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) was added as a versatile ingredient to a wide range of skin conditions. It is an anti-inflammatory which is known to combat dark spots and smooth lines and wrinkles. Our Cell Repair Moisturizer is also loaded with a combination of ceramides which are essential for maintaining a healthy and strong skin barrier.
With all those exciting ingredients let’s circle back to the originally posed question. Do I need to use a moisturizer if I already use a serum? For the most part the answer is yes! To be most effective apply the moisturizer minutes after the serum has fully absorbed into the skin. There are those who just naturally have perfect skin without having to use a moisturizer and to those people we are all jealous of them. However, for the rest of us 99.9% people using a serum and moisturizer have amazing benefits and result in smoother healthier skin.
Introducing Avenoir Cosmetics
April 24, 2021
She looked absolutely stunning as she glided down the aisle in her wedding dress accompanied by her father. Although he was full of joy he couldn’t help but think this almost didn’t happen because he was too scared to approach her for the silliest reason, his skin. His confidence and self esteem was at a low because he knew he still had some acne scars from his younger years and she had flawless skin.
You might not know or relate to this story but we have all had missed opportunities.
These missed opportunities due to low self esteem or confidence stem from one of three things. Our weight, our teeth, or scarred and blemished skin. We may not be able to help with the first two but we can certainly help with the last one!
Our vision is to create a world of unblemished and healthy skin for people of all ages, skin tones, and race. We believe that healthy skin starts with your diet and can be greatly influenced by which products you put on your face day and night.
The word avenoir is the ability to be able to look on a younger version of yourself and remember how you looked and felt. After multiple company name suggestions we thoughtfully landed on the name Avenoir Cosmetics. It was coined by John Koenig and is derived from the Old French words avenir, “to happen” and avoir, “to have,” all mixed together. This name could not have been more perfect because we strongly believe we happen to have the most effective products in the world. Mr. Koenig believed the word touched on the central dilemma of managing your memories: do you want to live your life, or do you want to hold onto it? Is each moment just something that happens? Or is it yours to do with as you please? Our product formulations all contain our special Cell Repair Nutrient ™ to restore and repair your skin to the youthful vibrancy you once had in hopes that you can live your best life! We want to help people look back on the happy memories and never look back on the what-ifs.
